Woodstock Ingersoll Tillsonburg & Area Association of REALTORS® Announces Kelly Byers as their 2023 REALTORS® Care Award Recipient

Woodstock, Ontario – Recognized for giving back to her community, Kelly Byers of RE/MAX a-b Realty in Woodstock is the 2023 recipient of the REALTORS® Care Award for the Woodstock Ingersoll Tillsonburg & Area Association of REALTORS® (WITAAR).

Many REALTORS® volunteer their time, money, and expertise to their communities and because of this the Local REALTOR® Care award was created to give recognition to those that go above and beyond to uplift our communities in Oxford County. 2023 marks the nineth year that the Local REALTOR® Care has been awarded, WITAAR announced the 2023 recipient at their annual Christmas Party at the Elm Hurst Inn on December 6, 2023.

“Kelly Byers is a very worthy recipient of this award,” notes WITAAR President Anthony Montanaro. “She is diligent in her ongoing support to better the lives of individuals in the community of Woodstock and surrounding areas. Kelly exemplifies those REALTORS® who have made long-term contributions to the communities in which they live. They help to promote public awareness that REALTORS® are committed to their communities and care deeply enough to be actively involved.”

Kelly is recognized for tirelessly donating her time and energy not only to the real estate industry, but to several charitable causes, local clubs, committees, and events.

Kelly has been a member of WITAAR for 13 years. Kelly has dedicated her time and been an active WITAAR member sitting on the board of directors of WITAAR for 3 years.  Kelly also volunteers for many of the association’s committees including the REALTORS® Care Committee and Government Relations. Kelly is the founder and organizer of the REALTORS® Care food drive that has run for 12 years and brought in over 250,000 pounds of food for the Salvation Army.  She is also very active and present at association events.

Kelly is also recognized for her community involvement as well. Here is some of the work that she has been involved in or currently is involved in.

  • Advocate for Blood Services Canada-the important need to donate blood.
  • Made a sizeable donation to Roch Carrier School for new playground equipment.
  • Volunteers at Roch Carrier for snack and lunch program and field trips
  • Is a member of the Oxford Local Immigration Partnership (OLIP)
  • One of the founders of the Woodstock Community Sponsorship program with the goal of assisting refugee families that settle into life in Canada.

  • Kelly was a girl guide leader for many years.
  • Kelly is actively involved in municipal matters, especially education. She reaches out to Ernie Hardeman regularly to resolve issues in our community and encourages others to do the same.
  • Follows city council meetings and shares that information on her social media platforms to encourage others to get involved with issues that matter in our community.

Some of the comments received to describe Kelly are:

  • She has a huge heart and is always helping others.
  • Her commitment is unmatched, and her impact helps make Oxford a place where hundreds of new Canadians every year want to work, live, and play.
  • She is a strong and committed member, interested in supporting our community on a dedicated basis.
  • Her outstanding contributions and selfless commitment to our community make her an ideal candidate.
  • Her ability to bring a community together speaks volumes.
  • Deserves to be recognized for her contributions to our community and those who have been lucky enough to be touched by her kindness would agree.
  • A most worthy recipient of this award. Few people have a dedication to their community. She donates time and energy to committees at her children’s schools and athletic events. Assists with Community Events when asked and sits on committees with the Real Estate Board.
  • The spirit of her generosity, I can truly say that she is relentless in her contributions to the betterment of the residents of Oxford County
  • She gives everything and takes nothing.

“Congratulations to this year’s REALTOR® Care Award recipient and to all 2023 nominees for being good public citizens, and truly caring about their local and global communities,” says Anthony Montanaro, President of WITAAR.  “It is amazing to see the diverse ways our REALTORS® give back, the leadership they take and the good example they set for others. Their community spirit remains undeterred.”

When asked for a quote on winning this reward, Kelly had this to say, “I have had a lot of time to reflect on life over the last while and one of the things I am most proud of is my commitment to volunteering wherever 1 can and providing financial support when able. Real estate as a career has allowed me so many opportunities to help others and for that I am so grateful. I have a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is What are you doing for others?” If you haven’t yet volunteered in your community or through the real estate board, I strongly encourage you to do so.  Volunteering will be so rewarding both for you and for whatever organization you choose. Thank you so much for this award.”

As part of Kelly’s award, WITAAR provides a donation to a charity of her choice to receive a $500 donation in her name.  “I chose DASO because they are an important service in our community, and I know the holidays are extra tough.  I also have several clients who relied on them in the past and I know they do amazing things.”, Kelly Byers.
